Our commitment
The AI for Uganda Initiative is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to guarantee a seamless, inclusive browsing experience.
Our website is designed to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards.
Supported assistive technologies
We provide a built-in accessibility panel (accessible via the floating widget at the bottom right of the screen) that offers various profiles and adjustment options tailored to different accessibility requirements:
- Epilepsy safe profile: Eliminates animations, flashes, and reduces color saturation to minimize the risk of seizures.
- Visually impaired profile: Increases font size, contrast, and interactive touch target sizes for easier visual processing.
- Cognitive disability profile: Limits paragraph widths, increases paragraph spacing, and hides non-essential decorative elements to aid focus and comprehension.
- ADHD friendly profile: Minimizes visual noise, suppresses decorative animations, and highlights the active interactive element with high-contrast borders.
- Blindness profile: Displays descriptive text captions for images, exposes page landmarks (`role="main"`), and provides keyboard navigation enhancements compatible with screen readers.
Additional adjustable controls
In addition to the preconfigured profiles, users can manually fine-tune the following options:
- Readable experience: Adjust base scale size, default text size, toggle Georgia Serif or OpenDyslexic high-readability fonts, and use a hover text magnifier for sentence-by-sentence reading.
- Visually pleasing experience: Toggle High Contrast mode, Light Contrast (force black-on-white text), Dark Contrast (high contrast inversion), or adjust color saturation level.
- Easy orientation: Pause all animations, hide image grids, use a reading guide highlight line following the cursor, use a large dark or large light mouse cursor, view shortcut tooltip instructions, or activate voice navigation to scroll and navigate the site with vocal commands.
