Who we are

Building Uganda's self-sustaining AI ecosystem

The world is rapidly transitioning into an AI-first future, and Uganda cannot afford to merely consume global technology, we must create it. AI for Uganda is a national technology initiative dedicated to bridging the gap between Uganda's untapped technical potential and global artificial intelligence standards.

We are not just teaching code; we are engineering a self-sustaining ecosystem of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and researchers equipped to solve the continent's most critical socio-economic challenges.

Our mission

To democratize AI education and drive localized innovation, establishing Uganda as a premier, self-sustaining hub for data science and artificial intelligence in Africa.

Our approach

The AI for Uganda difference

While the African tech landscape is growing, there remains a critical shortage of specialized, production-ready AI talent and localized data infrastructure. We bridge this gap through a targeted, three-pillar strategy:

Capacity building training session
Pillar 01

World-class capacity building

We bring global standards to local talent. Our programs are rigorously benchmarked against global leaders like MIT, Stanford, and Google. Since 2025, we have successfully trained over 200 learners, equipping them with highly competitive skills spanning Python, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Generative AI, and MLOps.

Pillar 02

Sovereign data management

Artificial intelligence is only as powerful as the data it learns from. We are actively establishing a national data bank designed to aggregate, standardize, and open access to localized Ugandan datasets. By securing our own data infrastructure, we empower researchers and developers to build models that truly understand our context.

Pillar 03

AI-driven local innovation

We prioritize applied research and practical solutions over pure theory. By leveraging local talent and home-sourced datasets, we engineer tailored AI solutions for critical sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and governance. Our commitment to localized innovation is exemplified by initiatives like Pearl Model, a state-of-the-art, native Luganda language model built from the ground up to serve low-resource languages.

Applied research

Bridging education and applied research

We believe that true mastery happens when theory meets real-world application. Through strategic academic and industry partnerships - such as our collaboration with The Foundry at Clarke International University - our learners do not just graduate with certificates. They transition directly into official R&D environments, working on active capstone projects, co-developing open-source tools, and driving applied research that shapes the East African tech landscape.
